We were in town for the night and this seemed to be the place that everyone recommended for dinner. We were told to make a reservation, which seemed to be a good idea. It became rather busy. It's a great place set up in an old house. The wait staff was extremely friendly. We ordered the mussels as an appetizer. They were more than enough for two people to share. My husband loved them and they had a great garlic smell. (As a disclaimer, I didn't eat many of them since I was feeling ill, although I wanted to). For dinner my husband ordered the chicken and I got the bowl of tomato soup from the appetizer menu. At this point, I really felt ill (not b/c of the food) and we had to go. As soon as the meal came, we had to ask to pack it to go. This was no problem for the waitstaff. They quickly got our food packed and we were paid. A little while later when I was feeling better, I had the soup. It was extremely good. I only hope we can go back soon when I am feeling better and can enjoy it there.

My sister and I had dinner here for our girls night out. The people that worked there greeted us warmly and made us feel at home. The menu was small but covered the major categories. We like limited menus with offerings that are prepared well. I had the pan roasted chicken and my sister had the Rockfish which she LOVED. The ambiance is nice but not stuffy. All in all this was a wonderful experience and I recommend it for all occasions or simply a good meal.

I have dined at the Bistro for several years. It is my favorite restaurant. I travel extensively and always go to the Bistro every chance I get( several times a month). Chef David is a master of bold flavors in high quality fresh food done right every time. The service staff is excellent as well. It doesn't get much better than this no matter where you could dine.

The new Bistro has excellent food but naturally it's different from the prior iteration. No longer are the mussels wonderfully spice and fantastic for dipping bread. Now the broth is fairly bland and traditional, but the mussels were of excellent quality and their flavor really shone through. The steak frites was tender and delicious, and the roll server made frequent trips with his breadbasket of delicious carbs. Get the fried artichokes. Fantastic. I almost couldn't save any for my wife! Overall, I miss the old Bistro. But I will enjoy coming here as well, I think.

With out a doubt, the best place to eat in St. Michaels. Expensive, but well worth it. Definitely make weekend reservations a few days ahead. They also do a nice sunday brunch

Last night, a few friends and I dined at Bistro St. Michaels under their new ownership and it was amazing! The atmosphere was warm and welcoming. While waiting for our friends to arrive, we took a seat at the back bar where we were greeted by the friendly bartender and some local shop owners who were also there for dinner and drinks. They raved about the food on the menu and suggested items for us to order (all very good suggestions btw... :) The appetizers were delicious! My favorite, to my surprise, was the deviled eggs. They came paired with a generous side of pork belly. For dinner I had the scallops which I would definitely get again. They were nice sized and cooked to perfection. The service was great and we didn't feel rushed at all. There was just the right amount of time between each course to make it a dinning experience and not just dinner. I highly recommend it and look forward to going back!

We're in St. Michaels for a nice getaway, so we decided to try out Bistro St Michaels for an experience with a locally owned restaurant. This is a spot where they make you feel Welcome right away. Like many businesses in Saint Michaels, it is located in what looks like a home. Saint Michaels has a rich history as one of the first settlements in America and was instrumental in the battle against the British in the 1800's. We were seated right away, although the place seemed crowded even for a Monday evening, so I would recommend reservations. The service is top notch. We had an attentive team of individuals who made sure that glasses remained filled, the bread was warm and the dinner served in a timely fashion and at the right temperature. My entree was twin pork chops served over a risotto and with a Mediterranean style marinade. It also included mixed vegetables which were fresh and not mushy. My hubby had a traditional steak and mashed potato; he had no problem finishing them off. :) Dessert was Tres Leche cake although it is described on the menu as a Vanilla cake with caramel. A conversation with the waitress later confirmed this. This is a nice place for a pleasant dinner.

Read the review, so made reservation for our 2nd night in St. Michaels. Very expensive for the food they offered which did not meet the expectations or the quality of the meal. The waitress Abby was great and very helpful. My husband had the pasta specialty Pappardelle with steak and mushroom and the meat was tough over cooked just not up to any par. Abby offered to get another item, however, very limited menu for a person with Gout. The chef walked around and never came over to see about the problem. Guess not a top notch chef as the ones I know want to know good reviews and bad ones. I had the scallops and they were great. The dessert overpriced and chocolate cake not first class. This was not worth the hype as there are much better place in St. Michaels to eat.

Enjoyed a great dinner at Bistro SM. Had the clam appetizer which was perfect and plenty to share with the two others who joined me. We then enjoyed the scallops, halibut and chicken entrees. The desert finally was the creme broulee and sorbet. Our service was also excellent and only wish I could remember our waitress' name. All in all a great and memorable evening. We'll be back!

As some of the other Yelpers have noted, the Harbor Inn directs its guests to Bistro with a 2 for 1 drink special. Everything I had at Bistro was quite delicious, beginning with the fresh bread and crab soup. I'm not usually a fan of crab, but I decided to come out of my shell for this dinner. As for the entrees, I got the steak frites and my date got the braised short ribs. The short ribs were so soft and succulent that we did not even need a knife to cut them. Awesome. For dessert, we split the creme brulee platter, which had traditional, espresso, and lemon flavored creme brulee. All were good, and espresso was an especially nice touch to end the dinner. My only criticisms are that the dining area is tiny and cramped, and the waiters lingered over us a little bit (when we got there, we were the only table, so that made things awkward).

This is the Sister Restaurant Of The Beautiful Harbor Inn Marina & Spa of St. Michaels which I STRONGLY RECOMMEND!! I Made an "Open Table" reservation for a Birthday Dinner for my Special Date! I was looking for somewhat of an Intimate Table. I was seated in a "Corner" but Comfortable seat next to another couple. O.K. The restaurant was "Cozy & Upscale". The Greeting I received was warm and friendly. My Date and I felt Rushed, as we had a 6:00 pm reservation, and we wanted to enjoy the evening. I had reviewed the menu last month in anticipation of what I would be ordering. We started out with a "Pear Martini", & "Blood Orange Manhattan" aka "Bistro Manhattan", which was an excellent choice. The Appetizer was my pick "Pork Bellies with Free Range Deviled Eggs". That really blew my mind this combo. The Pork Bellies were Deep Fried, but not Greasy. Tender, not Salty. The Deviled Eggs were Typical of a Pick Nick outing, however, I was expecting something more exotic. My Birthday Girl ordered one of the Specials. "Bistro Crab cake with Squash, Artichoke Hearts in a Creamy, Delicious Sauce, with the Bistro's Home Made Pasta". The Crab Cake was good, however, a spice, probably Oregano, Overpowered the Crab. In Lieu of a Meal, I ordered the Mussels that were Plump, and in a Delicious Broth serve with slices of toasted Artisan Bread. I Also had the "Duck Crepe". A delicious Slaw, accompanied by a Crepe with Tasty, however Stringy & Dried Duck. The Dessert was a "TINY" slice of Tiramisu that was served with a candle. I was expecting more of the dessert, A Larger Portion, Better Plating, Especially since it was for a birthday dinner. A nice wine & Drink List. Service was ATTENTIVE, however rushing. Looking forward to reviewing their Sister Restaurant "Masons" in Easton, Md. Chef Gary Curry

I got the the Monte Cristo with the mornay sauce instead of the whole grain mustard and it was TO DIE FOR!!!!!!!! Best brunch ever!!! The other people in our party got the french toast and croque monsieur and everything was so great!! GO EAT BRUNCH HERE!!

Terrible meal. Mussels were not fresh and poorly cooked. Frisee salald was not well prepared. Staff very energetic almost to the point of being too bothersome. Glass of wine was the only saving Grace! Will noy go back

What phenomenal food! A little house looking restaurant in an adorable town and you wouldn't expect five star cuisine but from the moment you walk in you know it's special. It's cozy and has the most helpful and attentive staff. The food was fresh and delicious. They had a special pasta that was to die for. I even tried octopus for the first time and loved it! If I'm ever back in the area you can bet I will visit the bistro again.

We were given a buy one get one free drink voucher from the hotel when we checked in, so we thought, "why not?" That ended up being such a smart decision - the good was amazing (I had the seafood risotto) and the service was excellent. I highly recommend this restaurant if you are ever in St Michael's - it is quite a gem.

So glad we stumbled upon this little, French-inspired gem (thank you, Ava's for being too busy!). Right in the heart of St. Michael's, The Bistro (re)opened about one year ago and has enjoyed a nice following. The manager, Deborah, is a former server from Sherwoods Landing (at the Inn at Perry Cabin), which means her standards for her staff are high - and it shows. Our waiter, Tom, was personable, professional, and honest (one of the best qualities in the food business): when we asked about the popcorn crab, he mentioned it was out of season (it is, I was just feeling "Spring-y" this particular Saturday) and steered us towards more seasonable items. The brunch was amazing, and fairly priced. Our croque monsieurs (some of the best we have ever had, and we have had our share of croques!) were $12 each (with a nice portion of pommes frites), our cocktails $11 each (a bellini and a mimosa). The menu is wide, and also offers lunch items (burgers, sandwiches), so they have something for everyone. I definitely recommend The Bistro; however, due to its intimate size you may want to call ahead for a reservation or hook up with them on Open Table.

Great service and food!! Recommend coming here! Came inside and was welcomed by friendly staff got seated and our waiter came to greet us and told us about their specials and will return with our drinks. She was so patience with us because I couldn't decide on what to get. The food was excellent and it was a huge portion!! I can't wait for our next visit to St. Michaels because we will return!!

Fantastic spot. The duck and venison are to die for along with any of the delicious soups. The atmosphere is very relaxing. The staff are very kind and helpful. A must for anyone who wants top notch food with great service.

Had a great brunch experience here; so much so that we came back again the next day. Both the service and food are really good. Coffee and bloodies are solid, and the French toast, hash and fries are outstanding. Cute little porch with outdoor seating. Would definitely recommend this place for brunch!

Really good brunch. Having less than the best food during our stay at Cambridge, I was hoping for a good brunch on our drive back to the DC/B'more 'burbs. So many places found in quaint, older towns can be so hit or miss, either great, or below average; this place exceeded my expectations. GF loved her Brioche BLT, the bacon and bread was very high quality (she's a self-proclaimed bread aficionado from the old country); my sausage and pepper hash - really good; the andouille was full of flavor and the potatoes were perfectly browned - in fact the food was so good, I ordered a second entree. Got the crab cake benedict to gauge their hollandaise sauce - again, no disappointments. Great overall experience and highly recommended for brunch.

The crab bisque was sublime and the salad with fresh berries was lovely. The halibut special was terrific. And the waitress and owner were welcoming and helpful about things to do in the area.

I dunno, the Yelposhere kind of led me astray on this one. The meals are *way* overpriced here for what you get, and the atmosphere suffers from a bit of a conflicting personality disorder. When we arrived, all diners were sitting in the front room, which doesn't feel like an upscale bistro but instead has a bit of a diner feel to it with the booths and that hideous partition with florescent lighting built in. I immediately noted there was something a bit off about the menu, which claims to support local foods, yet had asparagus in three separate dishes (I've never heard of Maryland or the surrounding environs able to produce asparagus in late September). Meals average $30 per entree. The beef filet was $36, which was extremely overmarinated to the point that all you could taste was the gravy/marinade and not the beef. The mashed potatoes that accompanied the beef were crafted through a pastry bag, and the whole dish was just completely uninspiring. Had the meal been $22, I would have felt it was worth it, but the hefty pricetag had me expecting a lot more creativity and better flavors. The homemade pasta had rockfish on it that was both greasy and dried out, and, again, way overpriced for what the meal was. With the restaurant so close to DC and Baltimore, I feel like the bar is just much higher. Had I had this meal far away from any metropolitan areas, perhaps it would have been a solid "nice dinner out" place; but with clientele coming regularly from cosmopolitan areas known for amazing cuisine, I'm amazed that they are getting by with positive reviews like they are on Yelp. Service was a bright spot, with smiles and checking in on us.

Great experience at The Bistro! We had a party of 17 the staff was on point, they reserved the entire 2nd floor for us! The service was entertaining, quick, and extremely personalized! They even had an upper deck for the smokers (non-smoker here but I know it was appreciated) Now to my favorite part, the food it was delicious not one person was disappointed and we have some picky eaters! I would go back a thousand times over great experience!!

Really excellent find for our day trip to St. Michaels. We had no reservation but the staff quickly and happily seated us at 12:30 on Sunday. Delicious mimosas - fresh OJ makes a difference. My crab and gruyere quiche was outstanding, and my husband's croque monsieur was so savory - we both ate too much but agreed it was worth it! The location is nice, and while the place has great service and a fairly upscale atmosphere, you can tell they also don't mind the casually-dressed passerby turned diner. I guess you'll have that in a town by the bay, but it's nice all the same. Would highly recommend.

We had breakfast on a Sunday. Hostess said we were lucky to come when we did (10am) without reservations, because a lot of people were coming in that had reservations. So I take it on a weekend get a reservation. Food and service was a 5! Only reason we gave a 4 was the menu was too small for a breakfast/bunch place. I would definitely go back if we have the chance.

Great meals for all 8 in our party which always makes the evening better when everyone is happy! Our waitress did separate checks for each of the 4 couples, even adding the gratuity which made settling up much easier. This was our first time there and we will be back!

We went here for brunch and it was excellent! My wife and I had crab benedict, oysters rockefeller (still think that them), and the frittata. Have to say, the only disappointment was when we had to leave to head back home. Staff was wonderful and ambiance is excellent. Until till next year...

My husband and I dined at Bistro during our "mini moon". The service was great! We started with the arancini, which were delish! I had the French onion which was a little to thick for my liking. My husband had the cream of crab which was excellent. For dinner we both had steak au poivre. Overall a good experience

Yummm! Really excellent food and service. For some reason, the menu wasn't that appealing to me, but the execution was excellent and everything was just delicious. We shared the blue cheese apple salad, then had the two specials, the halibut and the crabcake/wagyu beef. Both outstanding. My husband said best crabcake ever. Go and enjoy!

We boated to st michaels yesterday and made an 8pm reservation or 4 people. We were greeted warmly and seated promptly. Bistro is small white table cloth restaurant with a casual/relaxed atmosphere. The service could not have been better- NYC good without any attitude. The food was excellent and the space is nicely appointed. I would highly recommend for a nice dining experience in St. Michaels.

I have not dined here yet since I live 4 hours away. However my parents celebrated a 50th year anniversary dinner here last night, and raved about everything. Debra (Bistro Manager) worked with me over the phone to ensure that the dinner was paid for by myself, as a surprise to my folks. Top notch customer service across the board. Based upon this, and my folks review s of the evening, I want to give Bistro 10 stars. I heard that the food, service, and staff were absolute gems. kudos to you Bistro! I can't wait to visit and dine with you. soon!!!!! :)

When asked about the dress code, the woman on the phone told me it was "casual fine dining." Casual fine dining indeed; the wife and I walked in wearing jeans and t-shirts, and fit in with at least some of the diners, and didn't get any grief or weird looks about our attire. Of course, the place is nice enough that you can dress up if you'd like as well. The food was excellent. For starters we shared beef tartare and veal sweetbreads. I'll be honest, eating raw beef made me a little nervous, and every friend I've told about it since has given me a "you've gotta be kidding me" kind of look, but it was really, really good. The sweetbreads were also good, but the tartare really impressed me. We both ordered a steak trio for our entrees, which included three small cuts of filet, each topped with something different . They were good, but for the price I think I should have ordered something else. They weren't cut in a uniform fashion, either, so some of the pieces were more well done than others. Also, the restaurant itself was a bit cramped. Obviously this can't be helped in some situations. If you don't want to have servers continually walking closely by you, try to sit upstairs, or at least not in the narrow hallway-like section they put us in. Despite the crowded conditions, and even after a bit of a blunder with my wife's to-go box, I found the service to be great. What happened? They forgot to give us her box as we were leaving. Whoops! But fortunately, our server had actually listened to me when I told her our hotel and called the hotel to let me know our box was still at the restaurant. More than that, they had a restaurant employee run the box by my room! I was really impressed by that. We plan on coming here again, and are both looking forward to our next visit.

Big City prices with poor service and limited menu. Too bad, the poor service (bringing out $20 app with entree?) because the food is a 4 star recommendation.

The food remains A plus; it is fresh, locally sourced and innovative. The problem is the wine list; it is B minus. We ordered the most expensive Pinot Noir on the list, the Adelsheim. It was very undistinguished; when we called it to the manager's attention, she acknowledged it was not drinking well but was "very young". Are you kidding? You acknowledge your most expensive Pinot is not drinking well? We are locals and want this place to be successful. They really make it difficult to enjoy the experience.

This came highly recommended from our B&B owners. We started with the arugula salad, seafood plate (shrimp, oysters, backfin crab, and smoked fish....delicious. My wife had the seared tuna and I had the mahi-mahi...the service was very good and the restaurant was packed on a Monday night. This place and 208 are the best in town.

This quaint little restaurant renewed our faith in St. Michaels cuisine. After two prior meals the same weekend in sub par restaurants, this place was like manna from heaven! They accommodated our dog and allowed her on the porch with us while we ate, so that was the first good mark they got. The server recommended the Bistro mimosa and I'm glad he did b/c it was so good! I definitely plan to replicate it at home! I got the veggie frittata and my boyfriend got the monte cristo. The frittata was fantastic! I don't usually like frittatas or omelettes when I end up getting them, but the menu listed it as jam packed with interesting veggies, so I gave it a shot. It had really great flavor from the veggies alone - usually difficult to convince me of when there is no cheese! haha The accompanying home fries were crisp, piping hot, and perfectly seasoned. My boyfriend enjoyed the monte cristo & fries. The service was prompt and friendly and the view was really great for people watching on Talbot. It was the perfect St. Michaels Sunday brunch. I highly recommend and can't wait to return!

This is a sad review for only one reason. Bistro St. Michaels has closed. I've spent the last 10 years eating some of my finest meals at BSM. With David Stein at the helm and Indra at the door, I can only lament the loss of this amazing place. From the corner table in the front room to sitting at the back bar- I loved the food, the people I met and the impeccable attention to detail. No one's crab cake has ever stood up to Davids. And his '1/2 - 1/2 ( an insider's name for 1 crab cake- one soft shell) was the dish I craved after the snow melted and the crabs started running . Then there were the mussels and Indra's frozen Key Lime . Oysters were always beyond impeccable and my memories of a winter's night when St. Michaels was quiet and local' frame around a clear sky and a glass of Mucadet along with a perfect salad and a dozen of David's best. To David and Indra- and your incredible staff- from Colin to Crystal to Kathy to Michaela, this was truly a place where friends made sure you had a fine meal, the space was unpretentiously lovely and we always felt welcome and at home. Life has a way of bringing change. We are sad to see you gone BSM and wish you all the best in years to come.

Yes I agree it is one of the best in a town that surprisingly to us has mediocre dining choices. The manager and wait staff really did a knockout job for us while dining with friends last Valentine's day! So we will definitely go back. Yeah the pubs are fun! And the pickin' crab thing is fun! But to keep them on cue they really need some vibrant competition before they too turn into a Ye Olde... Bistro.

Great local restaurant in St. Michaels. We went without reservations and were seated immediately even thought the restaurant was full and it was nearing closing time. the tuna was excelent and my steak was perfect. The salads as appetizers were bountiful and real tasty. I strongly recommend this establishment.

4 Stars for food even if it was over priced. The haibut special was very good. 2 Stars for poor service We ordered from the waiter with attitude. The other couple waited and waited for their onion soup. We flagged down the hostess. She checked and said there was a mistake. She offered to buy us a round of drinks which was very nice. We never got an apology from the waiter when he brought the soup and very quickly sped off. When the food came the server (not our waiter) did not bring the side dish we ordered. We repeated how we wanted it done and ordered it again. Three quarters of the way through our meal it appeared and it was done wrong. The server took it away with no apology or explanation. Our waiter never checked on us once we had our food. This place needs to improve its service quite a bit and bring down its prices for food and wine to warrant a higher rating. Right now it is not competitive with other places in town.

As a vegetarian, finding a well-balanced, organic meal along the waterfront can be challenging. I happened upon the Bistro and asked for a recommendation. The chef made a special plate which was prepared well, served hot and presented nicely. Delicious. On the down side, I traveled alone. The hostess stuck me in the back room when there were other tables available in the main area. She didn't respond when I asked for another table.

The brunch menu was a little limited and on the small side. Also the bar drinks were a little weird and overly sweet. They only serve brunch on Saturday and Sunday and only do dinner Monday - Saturday. The Cobb salad was hearty and refreshing with a light dressing - I would recommend it. The fried were crispy and nicely seasoned. I may try dinner next time.

My mom, sister, and I chose Bistro St. Michaels for brunch before heading to the Inn at Perry Cabin for a spa day. We were enticed by the delicious looking menu and the good Yelp reviews. Unfortunately, our experience did not meet our expectations. We enjoyed brunch cocktails and coffee to start, and got the fresh fruit platter. The fruit was delicious, but was supposed to be served with mascarpone and honey; the mascarpone was missing. My mom got an excellent BLT with french fries, my sister got the chorizo hash, and I got the crab cake Benedict. All were good (especially the bacon featured in the BLT and Benedict), but my Benedict was served without any English muffin or other bread. I was surprised since this is a traditional Benedict element. It was a pretty messy and gooey dish (in a good way due to perfectly poached eggs) and could have benefited greatly from some bread. When I asked for an English muffin, they charged me $2. I wouldn't have minded except the dish was already $23 and English muffins are supposed to come with it! Finally, the service started out strong, with lots of attention and various ladies filling up our water and coffees. But as the meal went on, the service became less and less attentive. For a fancy brunch at approximately $40/person, especially in such a swanky town like St. Michael's, I expect a bit more.

I've been here for brunch twice now, and the food has been excellent both times. The croque monsieur (or madame with an egg) is delicious. The Old Bay Bloody Marys are really good, too. The second time we were there, our waitress was super awkward about recommending "adult cocktails" for my parents and referring us "kids" (we're in our mid-late twenties) to the soda/juice section. That was kind of weird, but other than that, we had a great experience!

Delicious!! The menu is a bit limited, but they also have specials - which I recommend! We started with the crab soup and the wedge salad - yum! The romaine is toasted so it has a nice char flavor on it. The soup was creamy and had a ton of lump crab. For dinner we shared the two specials. Pan seared haddock with veggies and a berre blanc sauce for my husband and homemade egg noodles in a lobster sauce with tenderloin for me. Both were amazing. So fresh tasting and the perfect portion sizes. We were too full for dessert but we didn't leave disappointed! A bit pricey though - they didn't tell us the specials price up front.
